What is StarStone?

StarStone is a new composite telescope mirror fabrication concept that is now available to the amateur / professional astronomy market.

A StarStone mirror consists of thin glass plates fused to a one piece cast-in-place core of “foamed” glass. This composite design offers the optical performance of a solid glass blank and the weight savings of a cellular design. The revolutionary weight savings allows for full thickness mirrors at up to 80% less weight than a solid glass design. Starstone mirrors are 100% ceramic products capable of maintaining optical stability over a wide range of conditions.
